Graduate Student Biographies 2016

Nicole LoewNicole Loew is from Boone, NC, and she attended Appalachian State University where she graduated in 2015. Nicole's favorite subject is algorithms, and she enjoys reading, watching bad science fiction movies, and drinking copious amounts of tea. She decided to pursue her master's degree in computer science, because she wanted to delve deeper into the theoretical side of computer science. Nicole chose Appalachian State to obtain her master's degree because her brother attended ASU for his undergraduate degree and after getting out of the Navy, she decided to apply herself.

 

Michael ZangaMichael Zanga is from Raleigh, NC, and he attended Appalachian State University where he graduated in 2015. Michael's favorite subject is computer science, and he also enjoys anime and various games. He decided to pursue his master's degree in computer science because he wanted to increase his job chances. Michael chose Appalachian State to obtain his master's degree because of the good computer science program and the scenery around Boone.

 

Naibin ZhengNaibin Zheng is from Beijing, China, and he attended Air Force Engineering University. Naibin's favorite subject is quality control and management, and he also enjoys soccer, music, and movies. He decided to pursue his master's degree in computer science because he worked for the FDA as a quality control manager for 16 years, and he wants to be able to assess the quality of products using computer technology rather than doing it manually. Naibin chose Appalachian State to obtain his master's degree because of the beautiful environment as well as the helpful professors and staff.

  

Haihoua YangHaihoua Yang is from Kannapolis, NC, and she attended Appalachian State University where she graduated in 2014. Haihoua's favorite subject is computer science, and she enjoys watching movies, listening to music, and playing games. She decided to pursue her master's degree in computer science, because she wanted to work on various projects as well as advance her knowledge in computer science. Haihoua chose Appalachian State to obtain her master's degree because she heard many great things about the campus and staff, and she enjoys the snow.

 

 

Chris SmithChris Smith is from Granite Falls, NC, and he attended Appalachian State University where he graduated in 2015. Chris's favorite subjects are computer science and mathematics, and he enjoys football, motorsports, listening to rock music. He decided to pursue his master's degree at Appalachian State because he knew the professors well from his undergraduate classes.

 

 

Nathan DavisNathan Davis is from Apex, NC, and he attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he graduated in 2010. Nathan's favorite subject is programming, and he enjoys playing video games, board games, and Sci-fi/Fantasy. Nathan chose to obtain his master's degree at Appalachian State because he enjoys working with computers, and the career field has excellent opportunities.

 

 

Scott ShufflerScott Shuffler is from Lexington, NC, and he attended Appalachian State University where he graduated in 2015. Scott's favorite subject is computer science, and he enjoys coffee, reef aquariums, music, programming, web design, and running. Scott chose to obtain his master's degree at Appalachian State because the program provided various research topics that interested him.

 

 

Zachary AndrewsZachary Andrews is from Knightdale, NC, and he attended Appalachian State University where he graduated in 2015. Zach's favorite subjects are computer science and astronomy, and he enjoys soccer, web development, statistics, and data science. Zach chose to obtain his master's degree at Appalachian State because he wanted to further pursue his interests in web development and data science.

 

 

Nathan HernandezNathan Hernandez is from Jacksonville, NC, and he attended Appalachian State University where he graduated in 2015. Nathan's favorite subject is computer science, and he enjoys science, programming, watching movies, and camping. Nathan chose to obtain his master's degree at Appalachian State because of the various opportunities having a master's degree in computer science opens up.

 

 

Huy TuHuy Tu is from Vietnam, and he attended Appalachian State University where he graduated in 2015. Huy's favorite subjects are calculus, analytical physics, and data structures. He enjoys swing dance, listening to music, working out, being outdoors, and learning and advocating for social justice issues. Huy chose to obtain his master's degree at Appalachian State University because he wanted to sharpen his technical computer science skills by doing more in-depth research.

 

 

Daniel IngramDaniel Ingram is from Mount Airy, North Carolina, and he attended Appalachian State University where he graduated in 2014. Daniel's favorite subjects are physics and computer engineering. He enjoys learning, reading, traveling, and hiking. Daniel chose to obtain his master's degree at Appalachian State University because he wanted to advance his computing skills in order to complement his other master's program, Engineering Physics.

 

 

Stephen DacchilleStephen Dacchille is from Boone, NC, and he attended Appalachian State University where he graduated in 2015. Stephen's favorite subject is computer science, and he enjoys programming, reading, ultimate frisbee, and skiing. Stephen chose to obtain his master's degree at Appalachian State University because he made excellent grades as an undergraduate, and pursuing his master's degree is good preparation for a job in the field.

 

 

Joseph O'NeillJoseph O'Neill is from Kingsport, TN, and he attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville where he graduated in 2012. Joseph's favorite subject is computational mathematics, and he enjoys running, hiking, coaching, movies, football, and video games. Joseph chose to obtain his master's degree at Appalachian State University because he has always had an interest in computational mathematics, so after teaching high school mathematics, he decided to pursue an advanced degree in computer science.

 

Devin SinkDevin Sink is from Lexington, NC, and he attended Appalachian State University where he graduated in 2015. Devin's favorite subjects are database and data science, and he enjoys listening to music, watching football, and playing video games. Devin chose to obtain his master's degree at Appalachian State University because he wanted to further explore data mining and modeling as well as advanced database topics.
